Anemia

Anemia is the most common blood disorder in the United States. Symptoms can be vague, and become more prominent depending on the degree of anemia. High risk patients should be screened for anemia. Let us help you manage this condition.

Blood Test

Anemia affects your hemoglobin, which are protein molecules in red blood cells that carry oxygen to your organs. Iron shortage is a common cause of anemia, because iron is required to make hemoglobin.

Anemia does not often cause symptoms unless the degree of anemia is severe. Symptoms include fatigue, shortness of breath, dizziness, irregular heart beats, brittle nails and hair, alone with paleness. Sometimes patients may crave certain foods, this is known as PICA.

There are many types and causes of anemia, and treatment may be different for each kind of anemia present.
