Joint Health

Joints are like the shocks of a car, overtime the wear and tear can alter their function. Sometime, an injury to a joint is overlooked and can delay adequate healing. Let us help improve your joint health.

Arthritis

At Florida Advanced Medicine, we promote fitness and physical activity. We understand that with any activity there is risk for injury.  Athletes playing contact sports have an increased risk for head injury including concussion, or traumatic joint injury requiring additional images or referral to an orthopedic specialist for surgical consideration.

Runners can experience overuse injuries, but this is also seen with weight lifting. We provide adequate safety education to help improve joint and muscle health. We work closely with physical therapist to ensure you are performing optimally.

Our goal is to ensure your joint health is optimized, we want to educate you on safety measures to avoid an injury. Some injuries are more obvious than others, if you have a concern, schedule an appointment to help determine the root cause of injury and establish protocols to help prevent an injury in the future. 

Sports Medicine

Outside of an injury, when a joint becomes swollen or tender, the term is called arthritis. This swelling can affect one or more joints. Symptoms of arthritis include joint pain and stiffness which typically worsen with age. The most common form of arthritis is Osteoarthritis, but other forms exist and may be associated with inflammatory conditions and other diseases.

In the skeletal system, the connective tissue surfacing joints is called cartilage. This rubber like padding covers and protects the ends of bones at the joints. Overtime, with wear and tear, the cartilage break down (Similar to shocks in a car) and cause joint pain.

Family Doctors are trained in evaluating and treating joint disease. We offer injections in office to help decrease inflammation, and refer to physical therapist to assist in promoting joint health with safe activity protocols and exercises to improve supportive muscles to improve joint health.

Joint disease is often progressive, and painful. There may be a time where surgery is indicated to help maintain independence and quality of life. We work closely with orthopedic surgeons to ensure your joint health is optimized.
